Five stars for value, a dollar per watt, Heavy Bass by C. Ashley
Two years with this system and I think I know what it can do.
It is just the thing for those rocket explosions and jet takeoffs. Gaming is the mode here although it is not bad for general use either.
Be warned, the mid-range suffers slightly if you have a critical ear.
But for 33 dollars, this is a well built 32 watt RMS system which is Heavy on the Bass, and quite good overall.
This system is a vast improvement over the little speakers that come with some computers, or for that matter over many comperable add-on systems.
You can use an equalizer, either your PC software, or an software add on to get better results.
Although some of the midrange is lacking, using the equalizer “smoothing” control helps a great deal,
If you see one of these and need a general purpose amp, or gaming amp, snap it up. It is better than the newer Logitech systems such as the x240.
Be warned, it can rock your house with all that bass and sub-bass.
Altogether, it is alot of bang for the buck.
Good for the price, but very boomy by Busy mom of many
These speakers are good for the price, and the average person would probably enjoy them. i use these in my dorm room in college, and they’re great for playing music, though the subwoofer is very boomy even when i set the sub volume at 0.
i semi-fixed the boomy sub problem by clogging the port with a sock, and putting the sub up on the rack under my desk insulated from the desk with a bit of foam. less solid contact with the floor removed some of the boominess. kind of nice now.
i mainly use these for listening to music, but occasionally for recording and mixing audio as i like to record and i’m too poor for some decent studio monitors (not really anywhere near flat response, but i have a good idea how they react. i also use a set of sony mdr-v6’s for mixing)
i also play guitar through these speakers using a line6 toneport (guitar amp modeler) with decent results after i did the aforementioned mods to the subwoofer, as it was faaaar too boomy before to use for playing guitar though.
the speakers are also a bit thin sounding (not the best midrange responce) but alot of that can be compensated for with the eq built into most music players. compared to my friends logitech x540, i like the x230 more. (the matrix button on the x540 is just awful, instantly kills all definition in the sound)
Quality for the price by Nathan Beauchamp
I bought these to use at work. While they are nowhere close to my Klipsch PM21 ProMedia 2.1 THX® Certified Multi-Media Speaker System I have at home, they are also about 1/8 the price. They perform admirably for an inexpensive speaker set. They have decent mid range, but the bass doesn’t have a lot of punch. They also use pre-wired speaker wire that you cannot replace, lengthen, etc…
Pros:
Headphone jack on the front of the control speaker.
Solid sound quality for the price
Inexpensive
Cons:
Propriatory speaker wiring.
Not much pop to the bass
Overall, these are a great buy for the price. You can’t go wrong.
A little bassy by A. Casselle
These speakers sound far better than my old Altec Lansing ADA-305’s and I much prefer these controls with the exception of the sub woofer control which was on one of the satellites on the Altecs. The one serious complaint I have is that the sub woofer can over-ride the rest of the music. I took off only one star because it can be tamed by turning it all the way down and adjusting your equalizer settings. Just adjust the 100Hz range.
