The Companion(R) 5 multimedia speaker system is engineered to deliver the excitement of surround sound content right at your computerwithout the clutter of five speakers. Just two small speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass(R) module deliver much of the audio performance you’d expect from a five-speaker surround sound system. Decent Hardware; However for Vista the software is poor by William A. Christian
First this set of speakers is good from the hardware side of the question. The sound that they create is quite good provided that they can get the data in a proper timely manner. However, the software appears not to respond to a Vista issues. The USB driver that comes with them will probably give one good sound on an XP computer system; I have only used them on Vista. On Vista, they need to fix the garbling of the sound that is produced in Vista and allow for more variation and control on the sound.
It appears to be the same problem I had with sound blaster audigy and Vista. I finaly ended buying the SB X-FI card and software which solves certain Vista issues. Also, on a system that is overloaded with Vista adding another load to the USB port will cause problems in sound reproduction. Yes, the 2.0 USB has the theoretical bandwidth but the computer needs to deliver the data to the USB output. You can actually hear the load on the computer processor. In the case of Vista I would keep to the old analog signal delivery. I would also make the software closer to what is delivered with a sound card (more control over the actual sound).
This appears to be another product by Bose that is not truly a complete design. The set of speakers is a great product until you hit the Vista USB connection and its inherent problems. Another example of incomplete design on the side of Bose are the in the ear devices that keep losing their soft covers. They have good sound for in the ear; however they are hard to keep from losing the soft plastic covers; you cannot use the device without the covers.
Great system by R. Downs
I have never been much of a music lover (probably because I like reality and most systems I have listened to do not do justice to real instruments) but these speakers are great and I now regularly listen to music when I am working on the computer because it sounds so good. I have not yet tried the surround sound for movies and gaming but will soon and am looking forward to it if is anything like the music.
The Best sound system by Dinesh Pandian
One of the best sound system that I have ever owned. With a USB and connected either to my Laptop or my MP3 - just one word - Awesome
Sounds fantastic!!! by M. C. Beck
Granted, I only got these speakers home about 3 hours ago, but I’ve been playing my iTunes collection non-stop and everything sounds amazing! They were super easy to set up (almost idiot-proof) and even easier to operate. I had always heard that Bose was the best brand, and I had never owned a set before. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing. These were definitely worth the extra cash.
I guarantee you, the neighbors will be complaining soon, too.
